Folksy Plus does exactly one financial thing: it swaps the 18p-per-listing fee for a £7.50 monthly (or £75 yearly) subscription. The commission — 6% + VAT on every sale — is identical on both accounts, which makes this one of the cleanest subscription decisions in selling: it's purely a listings-volume question.
£7.50 ÷ £0.18 = 41.7, so Plus pays for itself at 42 listings and relists a month. Under that, Basic's pay-as-you-go wins; over it, every additional listing is free money saved. On the annual plan (£75/year ≈ £6.25/month) the bar drops to 35 a month — worth taking only once you're confident you'll stay over it.
The number that trips people up: each sale of a multi-quantity listing triggers a fresh listing fee for the replacement, so an active shop's true monthly count is new listings + relists after sales. A maker with 25 products who sells 30 items a month is really paying for ~30+ listings — over the line without ever feeling like a heavy lister. Check a recent month's Folksy bill and count the 18p lines before deciding.
Plus accounts get some shop-front extras beyond free listings, and there's a behavioural one: with listing fees gone, relisting stale stock and testing new products becomes psychologically free, which usually means fuller, fresher shops. That's real but unquantifiable — the honest advice is to make the decision on the 42-listing maths and take any behaviour change as a bonus.
